Frequently asked questions — Portofino
Real questions from APEX clients in Portofino: matching, booking, hotels, travel, dress code.
How quickly is a companion matched in Portofino?
The manager replies within three minutes, and matching takes thirty to a hundred and twenty minutes. In an ordinary May or September week it's closer to thirty or sixty. On July and August weekends it can run to two hours, because the logistics are being solved in parallel: boat, taxi, table. For the same evening at peak the choice will be narrow, and we'll tell you so honestly.
How much does a companion cost in Portofino?
From €1,500 for two hours and €2,000 for four. Media segment — from €3,500 for two hours and from €5,000 for four. A night, twenty-four hours, two days and trips beyond the coast are on request, because they take in the road, the boat and a seasonal factor. The manager names the exact sum before booking, with no surprises after.
Do you work in winter?
Formally yes, in practice almost not, and we say so up front. From November to March Splendido and Splendido Mare are closed, so is most of the restaurant list, and the boats run rarely. In those months it makes more sense to move the meeting to Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Genoa (forty minutes) or Milan (two hours), where the programme runs all year.
Which hotels in Portofino do you work with?
Splendido, A Belmond Hotel on Viale Baratta and Splendido Mare on Via Roma, right by the Piazzetta, are the two principal addresses. Also Eight Hotel Portofino, in an alley above the square. There are physically very few hotels in the village: four hundred residents and a few dozen rooms in total, which is why August goes months in advance.
Where should I stay if Portofino is full?
In Santa Margherita Ligure — Grand Hotel Miramare on Via Milite Ignoto and Imperiale Palace Hotel on Via Pagana. In Rapallo — Excelsior Palace Hotel Portofino Coast on the headland, open all year. In Camogli — Cenobio dei Dogi. All of them are fifteen to thirty minutes from Portofino by car or boat, and for us that's a fully workable arrangement.
Can we meet on a yacht in the bay?
Yes, in season it's one of the main formats. The companion comes to the quay at the agreed time and boards at the crew's invitation, or is collected by tender. We fix the vessel's name, the tender pick-up point and the contact for the captain or chief stewardess in advance — that's a safety condition, and without it we don't agree a meeting on the water.
How does the companion reach the village if access is restricted?
Usually by boat from Santa Margherita (about fifteen minutes) or by taxi along the coast road (ten to fifteen minutes without traffic, longer in summer). Almost nobody drives into the village: there is one car park, it's expensive, and in season it fills by morning. The manager writes down the route both ways before the meeting, including the return transfer after midnight.
What's the minimum format?
Two hours, as across the whole network. But in Portofino two hours is essentially one dinner: travel at both ends eats the rest. If the plan holds an aperitivo on the Piazzetta, dinner and an evening on the water, take four hours or more. We flag this at the request stage.
Can we have dinner at La Terrazza or DaV Mare?
Yes, both scenarios work. La Terrazza is the Splendido restaurant on the terrace above the bay, the most formal address in the area: a jacket for men, a long or cocktail dress. DaV Mare is the project of the Cerea family, the family behind Da Vittorio, inside Splendido Mare and right at the water, with a slightly freer format. Booking in season is mandatory.
How far ahead do I need to book a restaurant?
In May and September — two or three days. In July and August — a week or more, and for a Saturday evening at the best places more still. Puny on the Piazzetta is small and goes first. We don't book the table for you, but we'll tell you the realistic lead times and fit the meeting around whatever you managed to get.
What's the dress code?
The restrained Ligurian one: linen, silk, simple cuts, minimal jewellery. For Splendido and La Terrazza — evening format, with a jacket for men. For DaV Mare, Chuflay, Puny and O Magazin — smart casual. For a yacht — flat soles, no heels on teak, and a light wrap: after sunset the bay is cooler than the square.
Are there nightclubs in Portofino?
No. The bars on the Piazzetta close around midnight or one, and discos don't exist in the village. The nearest club format is Covo di Nord-Est in Santa Margherita Ligure. Portofino as a whole is quieter than Sardinia or Ibiza: the evening here is built around dinner and the water, not around a dance floor.
Can we take a trip to the Cinque Terre, Genoa or Milan?
Yes. The Cinque Terre is about an hour, Genoa forty minutes, Milan two hours on the motorway. Trips like these are agreed a day ahead at minimum, and a week ahead on peak dates. The cost of going beyond the Tigullio coast is on request: it's calculated together with the road and the travel time, not by the village rate.
Do you work in Santa Margherita, Rapallo and Camogli?
Yes, the whole Tigullio is our working area. Santa Margherita is five kilometres away, Rapallo ten, Camogli about half an hour by road. A lot of clients stay there and come into Portofino for the evening — and honestly, in July and August that's the most convenient arrangement there is.
Can we do a day in Paraggi — beach and lunch?
Yes, we run the daytime Paraggi format from June to September. The cove is a kilometre and a half from the village, the only sandy beach in the area, with beach clubs and Langosteria Paraggi at the water. The format is usually four hours and up: lunch, the water, back to Portofino for the aperitivo.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash in euros, bank transfer to SEPA/SWIFT details through the manager, cryptocurrency — USDT (TRC-20 or ERC-20) and BTC. Returning clients can use post-payment and seasonal arrangements. All payment terms are fixed before the meeting, at the agreement stage.
Is a deposit required?
For a first booking — a deposit, usually thirty to fifty per cent, with the balance on meeting. For July and August dates the deposit is higher and is paid in advance, together with fixing the date. Free cancellation — at least 24 hours ahead in ordinary weeks and seven days at peak; moving to another date with the same companion, if she's free, carries no penalty.
How far ahead should I book for July and August?
The right horizon is two to four weeks. That isn't marketing caution: in August the village runs out of rooms, tables, marina berths and parking all at the same time. We do take "for tomorrow" requests in August too, but the choice will be narrow, and some scenarios — the Splendido terrace, a front-row table — simply won't come together.
How does privacy work in a village of four hundred people?
That's exactly why everything here is done more quietly than anywhere else. Communication only through end-to-end encrypted messengers, client data goes to nobody, and addresses and details are deleted from working chats within 72 hours. In practice that means arriving by boat or taxi, a specific meeting point instead of "on the square", and no scenes on the Piazzetta.
What isn't part of your format?
Meetings under two hours. Mass events without a personal client. Sharing a model's photos with third parties. Scenarios that put a companion's safety at risk. Haggling after the meeting. All of it is talked through at the agreement stage so there are no surprises on the day.
